Join them every other Sunday (starting tomorrow 8/25) at 6pm for a beginner friendly self defense class introducing concepts that are easy to learn quickly in a small group setting.
It’s a great introduction course for any queer or underrepresented individuals who would like to have some solid foundational self defense knowledge.

Welcome to our new followers! It’s been 8 months since we opened our doors in East Atlanta and the new gym is soooooo amazing.

Team Lis Smash is a queer, feminist and anti-diet strength training gym. Allies are welcome too! We’re intentionally different from most gyms in some other ways too:
1️⃣ 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲- Even if you’re doing open gym, a reservation is required. This guarantees a free rack and enough equipment for everyone to train and move safely throughout the space. Even on week nights (the busiest time for most gyms), you’ll find a maximum of 8 people working out at once.

2️⃣ 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 - That’s great because many of our team members are new to working out, have gym anxiety, and/or are neurodivergent. Things are labeled so you know where they go, and cleaning supplies are available to wipe down equipment when you’re done. The gym is cleaned regularly with HEPA filter vacuums, and we’ve got three air purifiers to constantly circulate clean air.

3️⃣ 𝐀𝐈𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆! What a luxurious treat for our Smashers - especially those who trained in our last four spaces and suffered through Georgia summers with just a few fans and popsicles to cool us down 🥵

4️⃣ 𝐖𝐞’𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐬! But don’t get it twisted. Our equipment is high quality and well-maintained, from companies like @kabuki.power @texasstrengthsystems & @roguefitness . The itemized list is too long to include in this caption so I’ll drop it in the comments (in case you’re curious).

5️⃣𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐳 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐲𝐦 𝐜𝐚𝐭 - We’ve got a very cute workout buddy for you. We understand some folks are “lactose intolerant” aka allergic to Cheez, so if you’re very allergic he can stay in his apartment. But mostly our little gym manager works the room and hogs the leg extension machine while you’re training.

THE WRPF ATLANTA SMASH IS OCTOBER 5TH! Yes friends, our lil gym is hosting a sanctioned powerlifting meet in 13 weeks, right here in the heart of Atlanta 🦄💥 🍑

Registration is limited to 20 lifters, and 12 spots remain. So sign up soon if you wanna lift! First time lifters are welcome (tbh y’all will make up at least half the roster!)

You’ve got plenty of time for a full meet prep training cycle! And Smashers, we’ve got a dedicated Discord channel for the meet where you can ask questions and discuss meet thangs.

A little over a year ago, this skinny orange cat started hanging around the gym (at our old location), so of course we began feeding him. Then, on July 8, 2024, he was outside panting in the heat and allowed me to pick him up and carry him inside (s/o @anna_penn_lockwood).

This is what a year of eating enough and lifting weights can do (swipe for pics)! He’s transformed into the most luscious beefcake emotional support animal you’ve ever seen.

Now we’ve finally got a Cheez shirt in honor of the best gym cat that ever lived. Thanks @studioyateem for another amazing design.

Once a month they’ll be coaching a 90-minute strongman class suitable for all experience levels, zero strongman experience required. Strongman is a unique and varied strength sport consisting of pushing, pulling, carrying, holding, pressing, and loading odd objects.

This class is a great option for folks looking for a break from the barbell or interested in integrating strongman into their strength training routine.

The Rainbow Deadlift Showdown is June 22!
It’s our 5th year celebrating Pride and strength for all bodies with one big day of deadlifts. Here are some pics from the past.

Every year we’ve had newcomers doing their first lifting event as well as elite powerlifters on the roster. All levels are welcome, no matter what you lift.

Choose a lifting goal and try to raise $1 per pound that you hope to deadlift. You’ll get three attempts (powerlifting-meet style) to pull your heaviest deadlift. It’s your choice to lift with the trap bar or the kabuki deadlift bar. Shin coverage (socks or pants) required. Lifting straps optional.

We’re raising funds for @gaequality , whose mission is to advance fairness, safety and opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and our allies throughout the state.

You’re invited to our 5th annual deadlift fundraiser! Each year (er, most years) we round up a bunch of queer and allied lifters for a little friendly deadlift competition during Pride month. Each lifter pledges to fundraise $1 per pound of weight they aim to deadlift, and we donate the funds to a local LGBTQ organization. This year, we’re raising money for Georgia Equality (@gaequality ), with a fundraising goal of $5,000.

Please join us on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, for the Rainbow Deadlift Showdown! Lifter registration is now open. This is a perfect event for beginners, as well as experienced lifters.

We started a new class this month!
Join Coach Alizah (@ab_trainzzz ) on Tuesdays at 4 for HIIT (high intensity interval training) class. Get a full body strength and conditioning workout for all levels (beginners + begin-againers are welcome!). Class is capped at 6 people, to assure safety and quality coaching for everyone. It’s $25 and you can sign up at the #linkinbio.

The 60-minute class includes a guided warm up and teaching (or review of) new exercises. And then you’ll do a few circuits, rotating through a series of exercises at your own pace. Alizah demonstrates a couple of the circuits here, so you know what to expect!

She’ll give form checks and help modify (or add difficulty to!) exercises as you go. Everything can be scaled up or down to your ability level.

Here are this week’s circuits -
Circuit 1:
8 to 10 Back squats (light weight!)
10 Romanian deadlifts
10 Hammer curl to overhead press

Repeat circuit as many times as possible (quality movement! Not fast and sloppy!) in 8 minutes.

Circuit 2:
10’ side shuffle down and back
10s Cheez walk-by
30s rainbow slams
30s front rack kettlebell (or dumbbell) march
30s plank walk or plank jack

And did I mention Coach Cheez will be there too? Which exercise are you most excited for?
