If you’re in town for the Atlanta Super Bowl, welcome! I intend to be no where in the vicinity of the Dome this weekend, but I’m still gonna shout out some of my favorite Atlanta local businesses so you can #shopsmall this weekend.
BARBECUE
Fox Brothers BBQ, 1238 DeKalb Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 – Best barbecue in the city (Texas-style). Get the smoked wings. You’re welcome.
BAR
The Nook on Piedmont Park, 1144 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 – Brunch, tater tot nachos and fish bowls. They have Thursday night karaoke too! Lis Smash was a bartender here back in the day.
Atkins Park, 794 N Highland Ave, Atlanta, GA 30306 – Atlanta’s oldest pub. They also have great bar food.
BURGER
Yeah Burger, Virginia Highland & West Midtown locations – gluten-free, organic and locally farmed ingredients. Try the brussels sprouts with goat cheese, sweet potato fries or the kale salad. The bacon (as a burger topping) is also delightful.
The Vortex Bar & Grill, Midtown and Little Five Points – greasier burgers than Yeah Burger, in a grittier more tatted up environment. They have a ton of different burger toppings. 21 & up only
COFFEE
Hodgepodge,720 Moreland Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316 – female-owned business with tasty coffee and fresh treats. They have two new locations coming later this year.
Joe’s, 510 Flat Shoals Ave SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30316 – the essence of East Atlanta Village. Try the Castro (cross between an Americano & a Cuban coffee)
GLUTEN FREE
Bantam & Biddy, Ansley Mall -1544 Piedmont Ave, Suite 301, Atlanta, GA 30324 – amazing gluten free chicken fingers, cobb salad and desserts. They also donated a prize to the Team Lis Smash Whole Life Challenge so we are eternally grateful.
GYM
CrossFit Downtown Atlanta, 215 Chester Ave SE B, Atlanta, GA 30316 – excellent gym with community-minded ownership. Drop ins are $25 for experienced CrossFitters. If you don’t do CrossFit but still want a workout while in town, email me.
HAIR
Laura Goddard Style, Grant Park – female-owned salon with organic color and sustainable beauty
Marie Marie, Candler Park – ask for Jo or contact him via Instagram.
HEALTH FOOD
Sevananda Natural Foods Market, Little Five Points – great selection of kombucha, juices, produce and vegan food
ICE CREAM
Morelli’s, Ormewood Park – Two words: Coconut Jalapeńo. Do it.
JUICE
Arden’s Garden, multiple ATL locations – try the Grand Slam plus some Sweet n Spicy Nuts.
MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD
Food Terminal, Buford Highway – everything! is so good 🙂
MASSAGE
Future Perfect Massage, Cabbagetown – Dara is amazing, but I’ve heard great things about everyone there
MEXICAN
Taqueria La Oaxaqueńa, Jonesboro & Duluth – their burritos are amazing!
PIZZA
Varuni Napoli, Midtown & Krog Street Market – better ownership than Antico and just as tasty
STRENGTH TRAINING
Duh, Becky. I recommend Team Lis Smash! Private and semi-private training sessions are available every day this week except Super Bowl Sunday. Email us to schedule.
TRAVEL
If you are in a car anywhere inside of the Perimeter (and many areas outside it) this weekend, don’t blame ATLANTA TRAFFIC. Blame yourself. Take Marta
Enjoy the Atlanta Super Bowl! And please tip your bartenders/service people, etc
xoxo, Lis Smash
