Our team has big plans for 2019. Here’s a January update:
In training over the last two weeks, athletes set new goals for the month and the quarter.
Our 2019 Kickoff Party was Saturday the 5th, where we enjoyed barbecue and sang daytime karaoke (awkward yet hilarious).
Next up: this Saturday, January 19th we’ll kick off the Whole Life Challenge. Some members of our team are taking a 6-week journey toward creating better habits in the areas of Exercise, Nutrition, Hydration, Sleep, Mobility and Well Being.
Wanna join us? Life is tough and joining this challenge will help you stay accountable and motivated.
Our WLC team is open to the public, so you can play along whether you are in Atlanta or somewhere else! Register here.
We have an intern! YAHOO!!!
Welcome Margaret!

Our other Community Goals for 2019 are:
- Monthly socials – next up is a Potluck Social on Sunday February 16th. In March we’ll go hiking, and April is Yeah! Burger team lunch :).
- Education resources – classes on Pelvic Floor Health, Chronic Pain Management and Meet Handling are coming this year, PLUS videos about Proper Warm Ups and Recovery Day routines.
- Quarterly Progress Checks – for the first time we’ll have four weeks (the last week of March, June and September, and the 2nd week of December) dedicated to measuring our athletes’ progress toward goals and lifestyle planning to help determine new priorities.
- Local, national & international competitions – members of our team have plans to compete in Atlanta area powerlifting and weightlifting events in March, April and May. In early July, we’re taking a team of athletes to Las Vegas for the USPA Drug-Tested National Powerlifting Championships. And later that month we’re going back ACROSS THE POND for the LGBTQ+ International Powerlifting Championships in Blackpool, England.
- Giving Back – we’ll continue offering discounted coaching on Sundays through the Fantastic Beasts and the Atlanta Womxn’s Barbell Club. In June we’ll co-host the 2nd Annual Atlanta Pull for Pride event, benefiting Lost n Found Youth. AND the Atlanta Womxn’s Barbell Club is working on a Planned Parenthood fundraiser. Stay tuned for those details.
- Building a Stronger Community (including Coaches!) – by the end of the year, we’ll kick off an Instructor Training Program to help more women, queer and transgender humans get into strength coaching and personal training. We’ll also be raising money to help these individuals pay for strength and fitness certifications.
And to keep the team on track and our community thriving, I’ve gotta make my own self-care a priority.
My personal goals for the year are:
- Balance work, sleep, hydration, food & training. Set & respect client boundaries to be available and communicating only during my business hours. Sleep 7 to 9 hours per night. Drink one gallon of water a day. Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks daily. Train 3x per week plus 1 to 2 days of yoga.
- Be more present. Be a better partner and mom.
- Read more. Finish 3 books per month (two of the old-fashioned paper variety and one audiobook)
- Write more. Journal daily and blog once a week.
- Continuing Education. Focus on pre & post natal training, weightlifting movement for trauma & psychology. Decide on and enroll in an education program to learn more about training women who are pregnant, trying to conceive, or returning to exercise after giving birth. I will also complete the Catalyst Athletics weightlifting coach program.
- Compete again (only if I stay healthy by doing all of the above). If things go according to plan, I’ll compete in the USPA’s 67.5kg weight class in March with goals of setting some state and national records, and achieving a qualifying total for July’s USPA Drug-Tested Nationals meet. I’ll also aim to set lifetime PRs including in squat (>350 lbs) and total (>900).
So there we have it. Team goals published in black and white for da whole world to see.
