Nicole “Sherisse” Malone is a first-year powerlifter and strongwoman competitor who lives and trains in Columbus, GA.
Sherisse competes tomorrow at the 2017 Georgia Log Press and Deadlift Championships at Core Blend Training & Wellness in Watkinsville, GA.
She is a novice in Strongwoman competitions but after gaining some experience she hopes to set a state record next year.
In powerlifting, Sherisse competes in the USAPL’s 72kg Raw Open class. Her best lifts in competition are 100kg/220# squat, 62.5kg/138# bench press and 130kg/287# deadlift.
Sherisse’s next powerlifting goal is to deadlift 300#. In the future she also intends to qualify for USAPL Raw Nationals and become one of the top 5 lifters in the state for the 72kg Raw Open Women.
Her next powerlifting meet is the USAPL Savage Open, coming up November 11 at Full Tilt CrossFit in Fort Valley, GA.
The daughter of an Army drill sergeant, Sherisse grew up running and doing push ups and other military calisthenics.
In high school she played tennis, was Captain of the female drill team and also participated in JROTC Color Guard and Rifle Guard.
Sherisse really excelled at Raider Team, an obstacle-course style competition with JROTC that included running, push ups, tire drags and more.
“That was my favorite and it’s what got me noticed by every military branch recruiting officer,” says Sherisse.
Following high school, Sherisse joined the Marines. After her discharge, she has remained active through powerlifting and strongwoman training.
She and husband Alan have two children, Alana (11) and Nico (5). The whole family enjoys being active and strong together, but Sherisse admits she is the most competitive one in the family.
Sherisse and Alan have competed together in several local powerlifting meets this year.
The next Malone to step on the platform is Alana, who is training for her first meet. Alana will compete at USAPL Powerlifting for Pups coming up September 16 at Atlanta Barbell in Decatur.
After giving birth to Alana, Sherisse was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). This made her next pregnancy with Nico high-risk, and fortunately both mother and son are healthy now. Today Sherisse manages her condition by staying active and eating a clean diet. Sherisse is passionate about raising awareness for the condition and providing support for other women with PCOS.
In their free time, the Malones enjoy watching comic book movies, and they all identify with different characters.
Sherisse is the red She Hulk, Alan is Superman, Alana is Wonder Woman and Nico is the Incredible Hulk.
