Flash back to May 6th, the day of the USAPL Atlanta Women’s Open… I am struck by the variety of competitors in the room.
The competition attracts women of all experience levels, skin colors, body types and lifestyles. The feeling of community and sisterhood among the lifters is amazing.
Every person in the building that day is inspired by something they see.
My boyfriend Jeff comments to me that night, “who knows what seeds were planted today?”
Not even two weeks later, we already know of a few seeds taking root:
-Sherisse Malone, who lifted at the meet, is helping her daughter Alana prepare for her first meet (September’s USAPL Powerlifting for Pups).
-Krystol Hines, the physical therapist whose company Made 4 Movement sponsored the event, told me that day as we were cleaning up, “I’m gonna do one of these.”
-Megan Shellman had six months of powerlifting experience before competing on May 6th. Now her sister and mother want to start strength training too.
And that’s the cool thing about inspiration: the inspiree is often also an inspirer.
While you are busy being impacted and inspired by one thing, you’re also doing some inspiring of your own.
To everyone who competed at the meet on May 6th, and to strong people everywhere, thank you for planting your seeds of inspiration.
With a goal of trying to keep the lady love and inspiration within our community growing, now I’m going to begin interviewing other female lifters for a weekly post here on my blog, the Girl Powerlifter of the Week.
Thanks to all of you who have already agreed to be interviewed. If you would like to be featured, please contact me.
And please keep inspiring!
